What Causes Tooth Discoloration?

Tooth discoloration has a variety of causes, from plaque and surface stains to thinning enamel, medical conditions, and genetics. The biggest sources of tooth discoloration come from consuming staining foods and drinks, smoking, and poor oral hygiene.

Get a professional teeth whitening treatment today and lighten your teeth by up to 10 shades. The peroxide penetrates your tooth enamel to remove internal and external surface stains by breaking down the compounds that cause them.

This results in a bleaching effect, which can leave you feeling more confident about your smile. Contact us today to schedule a consultation.

Impressions

For take-home whitening only, we will take impressions of your teeth to create customized whitening trays. They will be ready within a few weeks.

Protection

The custom fit of whitening trays ensures the whitening agent doesn’t touch your gums. For in-office whitening, we apply a protective gel and insert a cheek protractor.

For take-home whitening, you’ll wear your trays each day for 2 weeks. For in-office whitening, we’ll apply the whitening gel to each of your teeth.

Teeth Whitening Options

Take-Home Teeth Whitening

This option is more flexible and convenient, allowing our patients to whiten their teeth at home. You will receive custom-made whitening trays that are made from impressions taken of your teeth. Each day, you’ll apply the whitening gel to the inside of the trays and place them over your teeth as specified in the directions.

You’ll have to wear them every day for about a week to see results. While this treatment does not produce instant and drastic results, the whitening effect is the same as in-office whitening, it is just a more gradual process.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

If you have an upcoming wedding, dance, or other special occasions, a professional whitening performed by the dentist will produce the most instant and effective results. After taking precautions to protect the soft tissue in your mouth, Dr. Poblenz will apply a peroxide-based whitening gel to each of your teeth and activate it with a UV light.

The process takes about 1 hour and can significantly lighten your teeth (by up to 10 shades in 1 appointment). For severe discoloration, you may require multiple treatments. The whitening agent will then be rinsed out and you’ll be left with pearly white teeth.
