Do You Need an Emergency Dentist Near Arlington Today?

A quick self-check can settle the question. If you answer yes to any of the questions below, call us the same day, and if your answer points to the hospital, go there first.

Three Questions to Ask Yourself

Is the pain strong, steady, or getting worse even with store-bought medicine? Was a tooth knocked out, broken, or pushed loose, or did a crown or filling come off? Is there swelling, a sore bump on the gum, or a bad taste that keeps coming back? A yes to any of these means our reserved emergency time is the right fit.

Answers That Point to the ER

Trouble breathing or swallowing, bleeding that does not stop, or a hard blow to the face calls for 911 or the nearest emergency room before a dental visit. We can look at the tooth once the bigger concern is handled.

Reaching Us and Easing the Wait

Our weekday schedule ends Thursday at 4:30 PM, and nobody is in the office again until Monday at 8 AM, so call as early as you can on an open day. Online booking is available around the clock if you would rather request a time after hours. Until your visit, hold a cold compress on your jaw for 20 minutes at a time, take over-the-counter pain relievers as directed, keep aspirin off the gums, and save any broken pieces.

Most PPO Plans Accepted With Flexible Financing

We are in network with BlueCross BlueShield, Humana, Cigna, Aetna, and Florida Combined Life, and we offer CareCredit, Cherry, and an in-house membership plan for patients without insurance.

Why Do Wisdom Teeth Cause Sudden Pain?

Many jaws simply do not have room for four more molars. These third molars tend to arrive between about 17 and 25, and when one comes in at an angle or only partway, it can press against the tooth in front of it or leave a flap of gum where food and bacteria collect. That pocket can become sore and infected, and some people also notice stiffness when opening wide.

Impacted wisdom teeth are common. A 2024 review of 98 studies covering more than 183,000 people, published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine, found that about 37 percent of people 17 and older had at least one impacted third molar. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out, and Dr. Poblenz looks at the full picture before making a recommendation.

  • Imaging first: digital and panoramic X-rays show the position of each wisdom tooth and the roots nearby.
  • Watching when it makes sense: a tooth that is coming in straight and is easy to clean may be able to stay.
  • Simple or surgical removal: local anesthesia for every extraction, with a small incision for a tooth still under the gum.
  • Clear aftercare: soft foods and no straws, smoking, or spitting for 48 to 72 hours to protect the healing socket.

You can read more about the steps of wisdom teeth removal before your visit. Removal in the late teens or early twenties is generally easier and heals faster than waiting for problems to develop, and most people feel back to normal within a few days while the bone keeps healing over the following months. Protecting the blood clot that forms in the socket matters most, because losing it too early can lead to a painful dry socket.

Reasons Arlington Patients Choose JAX Dental Studio

Dental school in Kentucky came after Dr. Poblenz’s undergraduate years at the University of North Florida, where psychology and chemistry were his focus. He reviews your digital X-rays with you on the screen, explains what each image shows, and lets you decide on timing. If a wisdom tooth can safely stay, he tells you so and keeps an eye on it at future checkups.

Our hygienists and assistants explain each step and move at your pace, from the first X-ray to the last stitch. After any removal, we give you detailed aftercare instructions and stay available if questions come up during recovery.

Emergency Dental Questions From Arlington Patients

Arlington patients ask about everything from sore jaws to broken retainers. These answers cover the questions that come up most often.

What if pain returns a few days after a tooth is removed?

Call us the same day. Pain that gets worse two to four days after an extraction, rather than easing, can mean the blood clot in the socket was lost, which is called dry socket. A dentist checks the site and can ease the pain. Skip hard rinsing and straws, and go to the emergency room for fever or heavy bleeding.

Is jaw pain with clicking or locking a dental emergency?

Jaw pain alone is a reason for a prompt exam, but a jaw that locks open or will not close after an injury needs the emergency room. Pain with clicking or stiffness when you open wide is a common sign of a jaw joint problem, and we offer TMJ treatment. Eat soft foods and avoid wide yawning until you are seen.

What should I do if my retainer or clear aligner breaks?

Do not bend, glue, or force a broken retainer or aligner back on. Keep every piece in its case, wear your previous set if you have one, and call us for next steps. A broken appliance is rarely painful, but a sharp edge that cuts your mouth or a gap that lets teeth shift deserves a prompt call.

Can a tooth be removed at the emergency visit?

Sometimes, when the exam shows the tooth cannot be saved and the situation allows it. Dr. Poblenz explains what he found and gets your approval first, and local anesthesia numbs the area. If infection or swelling makes removal unwise that day, he lets you know and plans the safest timing.

Does the cost change if a tooth needs surgical removal?

Yes, a tooth that is impacted or still under the gum takes more steps than one that has fully come in, and the fee reflects that along with the X-rays needed. Dr. Poblenz reviews the fees with you before treatment. Most PPO plans are accepted, and CareCredit and Cherry cover what is left.
