A straight smile takes a real investment of time and money, so protecting it afterward matters. Retainers are the final stage of orthodontics, keeping your teeth in the positions that braces or aligners worked to achieve.
Dr. Charles Poblenz and our team take time to discuss your options and help you choose the retention approach that fits your needs and lifestyle, from removable clear retainers to fixed retainers bonded behind your teeth.

Dr. Poblenz will recommend the right type based on your orthodontic history, your bite, and how you prefer to wear it.
Custom-fitted clear trays that are nearly invisible when worn, a popular choice for adults and teens. Wearing them as prescribed keeps your teeth in their corrected positions after treatment ends.
A thin wire bonded to the back surface of your teeth, providing continuous protection without daily insertion and removal. Many patients prefer them when long-term retention is recommended.
Retention stabilizes your results once brackets come off and the bone around your teeth settles.
Retainers protect the alignment you achieved with clear aligner therapy.
Prompt replacement helps prevent tooth movement that can undo your orthodontic results.
At your routine visits, we can check your retainer and make adjustments for comfort and fit.
Regular exams and cleanings are a good time to make sure your retainer is still doing its job.
Dr. Poblenz grew up in Florida and earned his DMD from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in 2015, then returned to Jacksonville to begin his career. He takes time to walk you through every retention option so you can make an informed decision about your ongoing orthodontic care.
Through the Donated Dental Services program, he also provides complimentary care for vulnerable individuals in the Jacksonville community.

It depends on your orthodontic history and the type of retainer. Retention is often recommended for an extended period or indefinitely, and Dr. Poblenz will give you clear wear instructions so your results stay stable.
Teeth naturally tend to shift back toward their original positions, especially in the months after treatment. Skipping your retainer can undo the results your braces or aligners achieved.
Removable clear retainers are nearly invisible and easy to clean, while fixed retainers stay in place without daily insertion and removal. Dr. Poblenz will help you choose based on your bite, your history, and your lifestyle.

Clean your retainer daily with an appropriate retainer cleaning solution to prevent bacterial buildup and discoloration, and keep it in its case when you are not wearing it.
